Manufacturers of Sintered products

About Us

GNR Sinters

We, GNR Sinters LLP are manufacturers of sintered products. We possess the technological prowess to manufacture several ferrous and non-ferrous parts caterings to Automotive industry, Electrical industry, shock absorber parts and household equipments-sintered bronze/iron bushes (self-lubricated bushes) and sub-assemblies for refrigeration industry, compressors, etc.

We are a newly established firm, with an intent to aggressively place our product in the market. Our company has been established on core values of delivering consistency in quality and price competitiveness to our customers and in order to achieve the same we have procured the state of art machinery and adopted best quality control practices. Our technology partner is Fluidtherm Technologies Ltd, headed by Mr. Gopinath (President of Powder Metallurgy Association of India).

Why Powder Metallurgy?

The demand for Powder Metallurgy (PM) products has been growing due to many advantages powder metallurgy as a metal process offers. Due to enormous design flexibility, PM products can meet specific strength, tailored properties, design characteristics and operational advantages with a high degree of accuracy.

In addition, products with extremely close tolerance can be net-shape manufactured with virtually no waste and without extensive secondary machinery making PM efficient on a mass production basis. Most importantly, PM facilitates the manufacturing of parts or combination of parts that otherwise may be impossible or expensive to manufacture using conventional metal forming techniques.

The basic steps in the production of Sintered Powder Metal Components are:
1. Blending and mixing of metal powder
2. Pressing–Die compaction (green briquettes)
3. Pre-sintering and sintering
4. Repressing
5. Sizing
6. Oil impregnation

The metal powder of copper, tin and graphite is mixed in a pre-determined ratio and blended in a ball mill by using organic lubricants by few percentage in weight for easing the moulding operation. The blended metal powder mix is compacted by subjecting to die compaction press briquetting. Before sintering the green briquettes at 800°c in a mesh belt conveyor of continuous furnace, pre-sintering is carried out in the low temperature zone of the furnace at 440-450°C. The pre-sintering operation allows these powdered particles to liquify and completely diffused into copper. The entire sintering operation is done in a furnace under a protective atmosphere creating a high quality finished product, otherwise the bonding between particles will be affected by surface films such as oxides. For applications that require higher density or close dimensional tolerances, sintering is followed by a cold working operation known as Coining or repressing. In some cases, re-sintering after repressing will increase mechanical properties. Despite increase in strength, re-sintering may result in large grain size and loss of dimensions due to shrinkage and to rectify this, sizing is done. Special sizing process like powder compaction process and sizing dies gives the final dimensions. Finally, oil impregnation is done to fill the pores in the sintered parts by dipping them into hot non-gumming petroleum oil for 10–15 minutes at 110°C, complete impregnation which is done primarily to improve anti-friction properties. The final product, self-lubricating bushes are checked as per IS 3980 and packed for despatching.

Benefits

Powder Metallurgy Sintering Over Conventional Manufacturing Processes:

Metal in powder form is costlier than in solid form. Further, expensive dies and equipment needed to adapt this process implies that the process is justified by the unusual properties obtained in the products. Powder metallurgy offers the following specific advantages.

1. Parts can be produced from high melting point refractory metals with respectively less difficulty and at less cost.
2. Production rates are high even for complex parts. This is primarily because of the use of automated equipment in the process.
3. Near net shape components are produced. The dimensional tolerances on components are mostly such that no further machining is needed. Scrap is almost negligible.
4. Parts can be made from a great variety of compositions. It is therefore much easy to have parts of desired mechanical and physical properties like density, hardness toughness, stiffness, damping, and specific electrical or magnetic properties.
5. Parts can be produced with impregnation and infiltration of other materials to obtain special characteristics needed for specific applications.
6. Skilled machinists are not needed, so labour cost is low.
7. Parts with controlled porosity can be produced.
8. Bi-metallic products, sintered carbides and porous bearings can be produced only by this process.
